Tiziana e Ermanno Cascina Facelli

“LOVE DOES NOT CONSIST IN GAZING AT EACH OTHER, BUT IN LOOKING OUTWARD TOGETHER IN THE SAME DIRECTION.”

(Antoine de Saint-Exupéry)

When they met, Tiziana and Ermanno certainly locked eyes. Glances, smiles, different experiences, some even complicated… but upon meeting, a future was written, a prospect as radiant as their desire to undertake a journey together, discovering that their hearts shared a life project cultivated over time in their dreams.

In this way, they become a couple in love, able to relate with each other, living with an understanding that forms the basis of great unions. A twenty-year-long love that has endured, despite them not being so young.

Much could be added to this brief introduction, but of all the aspects that are integral to Cascina Facelli’s story, those that stand out are the passion, professionalism, creativity and strength – not only physical but also that of the soul – and, last but not least, a great joy for life.

Tiziana and Ermanno, who live in Savona immersed in a natural setting that is certainly privileged, sharing a dream for an “elsewhere”, without a precise idea: “Since we got together,” they say, “we have always looked for a home elsewhere, whether in Italy or abroad did not matter. A home that would allow us to reconnect with the earth and its healthier, though more laborious, rhythms.”

Ermanno is a true artist, capable of restoring to life – in the truest sense of the word – objects no longer in use, sometimes ready for the attic or even the junkyard. His industrious hands create little works of great magic. Objects, but also furniture, lamps, all imbued with creativity that is not simply aesthetic but offer a new function, a new beauty. Artefacts that become unique pieces, revealing an unexpected purpose after working to shape their forms little by little. The sculptural forms tell stories of simplicity, of an ancient world that still has a desire for the future.

Tiziana and Ermanno listened to the old stones and gave them that “newness” able to enrich without distorting. Where business reasons would have suggested creating more usable spaces, they chose to give the rooms a broader scope, taking care of every detail, from the reconstruction of walls and floors or their exaltation, to furniture that was often transformed, re-adapted with a touch of very personal design.

Did they do everything themselves? Well, seeing the photographs published on social media for their friends as the project pushed ahead, would hint at the affirmative. It was not unusual to see Ermanno with his thousands of tools and even on a tractor, or Tiziana with her hands deep in the earth or even becoming a carpenter! This great effort was met with faces tired from all the hard work yet still ever-ready for a smile upon each achievement on the way to achieving their dream.

Three years of searching were necessary, between flea markets, junk shops and the clearing out of the old structures. Not to mention the “right” professionals, like a creative electrician and a master stonemason who collaborated with the Academy of Fine Arts.

So, a design farmhouse? Of course, but a design that was not planned in advance, coming rather from a strong artistic sense, from an ability to grasp the essence of a material and its infinite possibilities. The result is an elegant and refined location in terms of taste and atmosphere.

The last step, chronologically speaking, was the garden. Neat, simple, brimming with flowers, perfect for anticipating the magic of the home itself.

Overalls off, Tiziana and Ermanno now welcome their guests like two perfect hosts, making them feel at ease and finally far from the everyday life of the city.

But, as the couple explain, it does not end here: “An art gallery will be set up inside the Cascina on a stairway that leads nowhere, with works coming out of the walls … Our dream is also to bring life back to this place with artists who can view the house, the fields and the forest…”

Reaching the b&b in Bossolasco Cascina Facelli is easy. Once arriving at your destination, it will be hard to return to everyday life!
